When we think about the future, sustainability and recycling go hand in hand. To get the most out of resources, one needs to assign them new tasks, reuse them with a new purpose, and, if possible, dismantle them from scratch. Because even if we do not act with such awareness, we all know that the resources of the world are limited.
In fact, the lack of resources is often the main determining factor in our lives. We do not need to think about it on a planetary scale, the need to use the ingredients in our kitchen for cooking is a good example. Of course, most of the time we can go to the market for the missing products, but, on a global scale, unfortunately, there is no galactic supermarket where you can buy new mines and energy sources. Though, how wonderful it would be if we were able to acquire a completely new ozone layer!
On the other hand, global companies are also playing a role in this situation and they take up a huge part in all of our lives. Rising costs and budget-cutting efforts have put them in a difficult position, forcing them to look for brand-new options. Organizations that cannot generate resources for new investment cannot grow, and this could be the beginning of the end in a competitive market.
As Borusan Cat, with our corporate motto “We create solutions for a better world”, existing in the field of sustainable development was inevitable for us, and we have achieved this by recycling and re-introducing materials and equipment that have reached or near the end of their useful life.
By proactively locating failures with our proactive way of doing business, we had an opportunity to create a win-win situation that benefits both our planet and the customers.
How Does Borusan Cat Promote Sustainability And Benefit Its Customers?
Sustainability and manufacturing solutions are at the center of all our work. As Borusan Group and Borusan Cat, we conduct our business within the framework of our corporate goal “We create solutions for a better world”, based on 3 pillars - people, climate, and innovation.
This point of view arose in the following way. We knew that the after-sales were the area of greatest value, and that the area was dominated by the reactive model. The reactive model can be defined as follows: selling the equipment, waiting for a machine breakdown, then fixing the failure. We turned to a proactive model with zero competition, where customer business continuity (maximum uptime) is at the forefront, taking the highest quality actions at the lowest cost at a time when the machine has not yet failed.
In our Component Rebuild Centers, which we call CRC, there are components that we are bringing back to life for the second or third time. As part of our Borusan Cat Exchange Business, end-of-life components are refurbished to Cat standards at Borusan Component Rebuild Centers. Thus, instead of scrapping, we contribute to sustainable development by bringing new economic life to the existing one.
In 2011, the first of the Borusan Cat Certified Rebuild Centers, which is where the parts are renewed, was opened in Kazakhstan. In addition to the Far East Russia, the total number of Component Rebuild Centers has increased to 4, including sites in Gebze and Ankara in Turkey.
In 2021, with the 5.000 tons of materials we re-manufactured at our Component Rebuild Centers; we created 84million $ of added value. Thanks to this, we played a significant role in conserving natural resources in the circular economy.
The biggest dilemma about the future of the world may be that humanity needs to use the resources of the planet as fuel on the path to the future, while the reckless/unconscious use of the planet's resources leads the future into darkness.
So, the solution is to get the most out of the resources we are already using! In other words, we must recycle recyclable materials, repair those that are repairable, and “upgrade” non-recyclable materials with new features and put them back into production. In our opinion, this once again proves the need for recycling to ensure sustainability.
